Carolina Ice Palace’s Adult Skating Weekend is designed for skaters over the age of 21 who want to hone their skills in a fun and welcoming environment. We will have two tracks to accommodate competitive skaters, skaters testing for personal achievement, and basic skills skaters who want to improve. An expert coaching team and inspiring skaters will provide technique and skill development instruction. Our mission is to create a joyful, friendly environment where skaters encourage and support each other. This is a great opportunity to make new friends, sharpen your skating skills and techniques, and just have a lot of fun.

Friday, August 6
4:30pm – 5:30pm: Freestyle
5:30pm – 6:30pm: On Ice Class: Moves/Turns/Edges
Group 1: Improving mohawks, 3 turns, edges
Group 2: Improving brackets, loops, rockers, edges
7:00pm – 9:00pm: Social in the Penalty Box Bar & Grill located inside Carolina Ice Palace. Includes two drinks and light appetizers. Storytime with Jim Millns, Sandy Lenz, and Anita Hartshorn starts @ 7:30pm

Saturday, August 7
8:00am – 8:30am: Open Freestyle/Dance
8:30am – 9:00am: Art o the Edge Warm-Up Class (on ice)
9:00am – 9:30am: Stroking, Cross-overs (2 Groups)
9:30am – 10:00am: 2 Groups – Turns, Stops, Edge Work Continued OR Spins, Jumps
10:30am – 11:30am: Off-Ice Class Balance, Off-Ice Skating Related Exercises (Jump Landings, Spirals, Turns, & Coordination, Ending with a Short Cool Down, Deep Breathing and Yoga)

Lunch – Provided

1:00pm – 1:50pm: Theater on Ice/Expression
1:50pm – 2:00pm: Group Photo
2:15pm – 2:50pm: Question & Answer

Jim Millns

Jim started skating lessons at the age of 13, and 13 years later became the first US Ice Dance Team to win an Olympic Medal. Jim has “done it all” in skating. Some of the highlights include:

Anita Hartshorn

Anita has coached for over 30 years including international skaters from around the world. She has conducted skating clinics for the US Figure Skating Elite Skaters and has conducted clinics across the US as well as in Singapore, Guam, New Zealand, Italy, Germany, Israel, Philippines, Taiwan, Korea, and Mexico. Presently she coaches at the World Famous Sun Valley Resort, she is the Casting Director for Glacier Ice Shows, and she is the Co-Owner of Glacier I.C.E., Inc (Ice Show Presentation Co.) Anita holds the following titles:

Sandy Lenz-Jackson

With 30 years of experience coaching skaters, Sandy brings her diverse talents to the Carolina Ice Palace, where she has coached for the last 22 years. Sandy’s accomplishments include:

Competing in the 1980 Olympics
Winning the National Figure Skating Championship twice
Earning the silver medal in the 2015 World Figure Skating Championship
She spent 17 years in national and international professional ice shows as a featured soloist, choreographer, and pair skater with Chris Green. She specializes in Freestyle, Moves in the Field, Figures, Pairs, Choreography and Hockey Power skating.
