Power Skating Clinics

Hockey Power Skating – House Level 
Dates: June 11 – August 27 (no class on 7/2)

Time: Tuesdays / 5:30 – 6:15pm

Summer is the perfect time to train skating skills in preparation for the upcoming hockey season. We are excited to offer group power skating classes for house league players ages 7 and up. Classes will work on the details below:

  • Establish and teach proper hockey position and foundation (the hockey chair) with a focus on proper weight distribution and balance.
  • Focus on proper stride mechanics and balance with a focus on the timing of weight transfer during the stride.
  • Emphasize and demonstrate full stride extension and full stride recovery techniques with a focus on how to use ankle flex for maximum power and glide.
  • Teach proper control of the glide foot and edge with a strong focus on the key mechanics of the inside and outside edge.
  • Teach the foundation of crossovers for maximizing power and balance.
  • Advanced techniques for power turns, cutbacks, three turns, and pivots.

This class is not for beginners. Players should have a good base of basic skating skills, including backward skating. Beginners must register for Learn to Skate.

Hockey Power Skating – Travel Level 
Dates: June 11 – August 27 (no class on 7/2)

Time: Tuesdays / 6:20 – 7:05pm

The 3-day Defensive Concepts Clinic will focus on specific skills that will improve your overall play on the defensive side of the puck. A station-based format is utilized for much of the instruction to maximize personal attention and ensure players are grouped by age and ability on the ice.

  • Ryan Blair – CIP/CYHA Hockey Director, former professional coach and former D1 and professional defenseman.
  • Brenden Kotyk – Head Coach of the South Carolina Stingrays and former D1 and professional defenseman.
  • Other CIP/CYHA Coaches will be assisting on the ice.
Summer 2024 – Goalie Clinic
(2008-2015 – House + Travel)

The 2-day Goalie Clinic will focus on specific skills that will improve your overall play in the crease. A station-based format is utilized for much of the instruction to maximize personal attention and ensure players are grouped by age and ability on the ice.

Coaching Staff:

  • Jeff Jakaitis – CYHA Goalie Director, 12-year professional career (3X ECHL First-team all star, 3X ECHL Goalie of the year, 1 X ECHL MVP, and former D1 goalie

  • Parker Milner – 8-year professional career (1 X ECHL Goalie of the year, 1 X ECHL First-team all star, 1 X ECHL Second-team all star, and former D1 goalie (2 X NCAA National Champion)
  • Colleen Jacoby – CYHA Goalie Development Coach, former NCAA goalie
  • Other CIP/CYHA Coaches will be assisting on the ice.
